Tragically, the original One Pillar Pagoda was destroyed at the end of the French colonization of Vietnam in 1954. This remarkable feat of preservation led to the temple’s recognition as a National Historic Heritage in 1962. In 2012, it was further honored with the title of “the most unique architectural monument” by the Asian Records Association in India.
