During the French colonial period, the building was known as Hôtel de Ville. Later, it was converted into a city hall under the South Vietnam government. Since 1975, it has been officially referred to as the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Building. Situated at the intersection of Nguyen Hue Boulevard and Le Thanh Ton Street, it bears a striking resemblance to the Paris City Hall with its Renaissance-style architecture.

The facade of the building is adorned with various decorations, the most famous of which is the Marianne relief in the center. These architectural elements reflect the style of the French Third Republic.
