Location & History
The Temple of Literature in Hue sits serenely on the bank of the Perfume River, to the west of the Citadel. Its strategic position, just 1km away from the prestigious Linh Mu Pagoda, adds to its allure. Built in 1908 during the reign of King Gia Long, this south-facing monument majestically rests on the hilltop, offering breathtaking views of the surroundings. What To See
Within the temple complex, you will discover approximately 50 architectural works. However, the most impressive of them all is the worshiping hall of Confucius. As you enter through the main gate, you will be greeted by four tall and majestic pillars, representing strength and solemnity. Above the gate, a large sign hangs high, adorned with the words “Dao Tai Luong Gian” (The principles in the world) and “Trac Viet Thien Co” (Higher than ever before). Take a stroll through the temple grounds and you will encounter small houses where kings and mandarins once prepared their attire before attending ceremonies. At the front of the temple, you will encounter two rows of 32 preserved steles. These steles proudly bear the names of 239 successful candidates in National Examinations organized during the Nguyen Dynasty. Despite being damaged during war times, the main temple and the steles still stand as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Vietnamese people.

How To Get There
