The trail leading to the Dinosaur Spine is a 1m curving and steep road, where trekkers sometimes need to rely on both their hands and legs to navigate the strong wind. To fully experience the trail, it is advisable to bring essential tools, food, and drinks for a two-day or longer trip.
Cloud Hunting
Aside from its challenges, Ta Xua Mountain offers a stunning reward – the chance to witness a cloud paradise. At the end of the Dinosaur Spine, you’ll be greeted by an ocean of clouds. The best time for cloud hunting is between 6 am to 10 am, but it’s recommended to start your trek as early as 5 am to witness the magical transformation of the sky. How to Get There
From Hanoi, you can choose between a train or car to reach Tram Tau, Yen Bai. The journey will take approximately 5 hours. Once you arrive, book a bus to Ta Xua village, Ban Cong, which serves as the starting point for the trekking road. From there, you’ll follow a single dirt road with a steep slope that leads to the dinosaur peak of Ta Xua Mountain.
Another option is to take the Son La route, which allows you to reach Ta Xua directly without changing vehicles. This saves your energy for the adventure that lies ahead.
Best Time to Visit
The period from the end of the year to April of the following year is the ideal time for a trip to Ta Xua Mountain. Although the weather remains cool throughout the year, during this period, the temperature drops significantly, causing the clouds to rise and revealing the twinkling stars.
