Essential Information
- Vietnam has closed its international border to visitors since March 15th, 2020.
- As of February 2021, the country is not yet open to foreign visitors, except for diplomats, essential workers, top position managers, and experts of businesses in Vietnam.
- To enter Vietnam under the above categories, you must have a sponsor entity in Vietnam who will handle all the necessary documents and procedures.
- All visitors arriving via international air routes will be subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine at a state-approved facility.
- Inbound flights to Vietnam are limited, so it’s advisable to contact Vietnam’s embassy in your local country for the latest updates. Outbound flights are still available.
What can Visitors Expect?
- Wearing masks is mandatory in all public spaces.
- Different restrictions are in place across Vietnam, depending on the local COVID-19 situation.
- In Hanoi, religious centers, cafes, sidewalk eateries, bars, and karaoke venues are closed until further notice.
- In Ho Chi Minh City, religious gatherings of more than 20 people are not allowed, and non-essential businesses such as fitness centers, wedding halls, spas, massage parlors, beer restaurants, nightclubs, and cinemas are closed.
- In Hue and Danang, no restrictions apply.
- In some cities and provinces, schools are closed and replaced by virtual learning experiences.
Recent Updates
- Due to a recent outbreak in late January, stricter border control and regional lockdowns are in place in certain areas based on the severity of the COVID-19 situation.
- Hai Duong province is currently under lockdown, as it has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases. Other provinces taking pre-emptive measures include Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Gia Lai, Quang Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi.
- As of February 21st, Vietnam has recorded over 2,300 COVID-19 cases (including both imported and local transmission) and 35 deaths. Vietnam is among the 50 countries and territories with the lowest number of COVID-19 cases in the world, according to Worldometers.
- Flights from the UK and South Africa are temporarily suspended until further notice.
COVID-19 Testing & Vaccine in Vietnam
If you need a PCR and/or antigen test in Vietnam, you can visit trusted medical centers such as Medlatec or Hanoi French Hospital in Hanoi, or Ho Chi Minh City CDC or FV Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. The cost of the test ranges from $30 to $120, depending on the medical center.
Vietnam has approved the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for emergency use; however, vaccines are not yet publicly available upon request. Please ensure to stay updated with the latest information regarding vaccination availability.
