Nestled just 12km away from the heart of Dalat city, Lang Biang Mountains stand proudly, adorning the skyline like a magnificent crown. Legend has it that the mountain takes its name from a tale of forbidden love between a brave young man named K’lang and a beautiful girl named Ho Biang. Their love story, filled with sacrifice and tragedy, has become an integral part of the local folklore.
There are two versions of the legend. According to one, the couple defied the odds and got married, seeking solace on the mountains. However, when Ho Biang fell gravely ill, K’lang had to return to the tribe for help. Tragically, he was shot with a poisonous arrow intended for Ho Biang, who valiantly shielded her husband. Overwhelmed by grief, K’lang’s tears formed a stream known as Dankia (the Golden Stream). The other version suggests that the couple chose to end their lives together due to their inability to be together.
In either version, Ho Biang’s father, remorseful for his daughter’s death, united the tribes, allowing boys and girls from the K’ho group to marry. The graves of the ill-fated lovers eventually grew into the two majestic mountains, now known as Lang Biang. This name serves as a poignant reminder of their profound love.
The Roof of Dalat
Lang Biang encompasses the two highest peaks of Lam Vien Highland: Lang Biang, reaching 2,167m, and the 2,287m high Bidoup Ban. These peaks are often referred to as the roof of Dalat. The mountain is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and offers a mesmerizing panorama of Dalat City, including the surrounding forests, rivers, and tribal villages.
Standing atop Lang Biang Mountain, visitors can witness the splendor of the Golden Stream and Silver Stream, gazing upon the lush green valley that resembles two shimmering ribbons of silver silk.
