December – January: Cold, Cool, and Dry
During these months, the northern part of Vietnam experiences colder temperatures, while the central regions offer a cool climate. In the south, however, dry weather prevails. If you plan to visit Halong Bay, don’t fret about swimming. Halong Bay isn’t known for swimming spots anyway. But if beach time is what you seek, Nha Trang or Phu Quoc will provide the perfect coastal escape.
February: A Cool Break
February brings cooler weather to the north and central parts of Vietnam, while the south remains dry. It’s worth noting that lunar new year celebrations often take place in this month. While it won’t significantly impact your trip, keep in mind that some restaurants may be closed, and train or plane tickets may be harder to come by. To avoid any inconvenience, make sure to plan and reserve your travel arrangements well in advance.
March: Drizzle-Filled Days
March may not be my personal favorite, thanks to the constant drizzle that seems to pervade Vietnam during this month. However, it’s an excellent time to enjoy the beaches in the south while the north and center regions offer warm temperatures. Just remember to pack an umbrella!

Whether you’re exploring Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc, or the Mekong Delta, April offers favorable conditions for your adventures.
May – August: Embrace the Heat
Contrary to popular belief, the summer months from May to August are not a low season in Vietnam. In fact, these months boast beautiful weather with blue skies, warm beaches, and lower prices. The only drawback is that popular destinations such as Sapa, Danang, and Nha Trang tend to get crowded on weekends. So, plan your trips accordingly to avoid the rush.
September: Cool in the North, Rainy in the Center and South
September offers a pleasant break from the scorching summer heat. The northern region experiences cooler temperatures, making it an excellent time to explore Sapa and Halong Bay. The prices remain budget-friendly, and you’ll find fewer tourists. However, be prepared for wet weather if you venture into the central and southern parts of Vietnam.
October – November: Change is in the Air
During these months, the north enjoys cool and dry weather, while the center and south experience rainy conditions. It’s not the best time to visit cities like Hoi An, Danang, or Hue, as the beaches lose some of their charm. But don’t let that dampen your spirits; there’s still so much to discover in Vietnam.
