Unfortunately, this activity displaced the original inhabitants, the Dao ethnic group, forcing them to abandon their own lands. Consequently, the region around Mau Son Mountain fell under the control of the mighty French. However, access to the French base was restricted only to authorized personnel.
It wasn’t until January 1936 that tourists were granted access to this enchanting site. Dr. O Pflot, a student of Dr. Alexandre Yersin, visited Mau Son Mountain in search of Vietnamese traditional medicinal herbs. Mesmerized by the simple yet captivating beauty he found, Dr. Pflot advocated for tourism development in the area. After much persistence, his proposal was accepted, and construction of tourist villas began the same year. It took Dr. O Pflot a remarkable seven years to transform his dream into reality, resulting in the presence of numerous ancient stone villas scattered across the mountainside.
