The Legend of the Black Virgin

According to local tales, during the late 18th century, when the conflict between Trinh King and Nguyen Kinh plunged the country into turmoil, a young man named Le Sy Triet from Quang Hoa joined the army of Nguyen Hue, later known as King Quang Trung. In the face of adversity, Le Sy Triet bid farewell to his beloved, Ly Thi Thien Huong, entrusting her loyalty to him. Tragically, she was forced into a marriage with a powerful man in the village. Overwhelmed by despair and sorrow, she chose to protect her virtue and committed suicide by leaping off a mountain edge. Moved by her beauty and unwavering loyalty, people built a temple on that very mountain, which became known as Ba Den Mountain, as a tribute to her memory. Over time, the story spread, and pilgrims from all corners of the world began to visit the temple during the spring, upholding a custom that has endured through generations.
